About US Metric Convert
US Metric Convert was created to solve a simple, everyday problem: millions of people regularly need to switch between the metric system used almost everywhere in the world, and the imperial system still used in the United States. The idea came from real experience working in the tourism industry in Quebec, Canada, where American visitors often struggled with kilometers, Celsius, and kilograms. This site was built to bridge that gap quickly and simply, without intrusive ads or unnecessary complexity.
Our goal is to offer a free, fast, and accurate unit converter, available in both English and French, for travelers, students, professionals, and anyone who needs quick, reliable conversions. This site is independently run, with a continued focus on accuracy and ease of use.
Why Does the United States Still Use the Imperial System?
The United States uses the US Customary system (closely related to imperial units) for historical, economic, and practical reasons. The system was inherited from British colonial rule, and switching to the metric system would involve enormous costs for industry, infrastructure, and education. For travelers, understanding both systems is essential when visiting countries that use metric units.
